After the “baby Airbus” caricature (that you can see right above), I couldn’t help to make also the “baby Boeing”. To be honest, this was made last year as a friend’s gift, but for some reasons related to few modifications, I’m showing it just now.
As in the case of the little A319, I had to study well the several “somatic” esthetic features of the plane that needed to be caricatured.
In this case, the boeing’s shapes are generally streamlined and less stubby. The nose, the wing and the tail planes, they have sharper designs, with cutting edge and tapered extremities. As usual, with the basic sketch, I set the general proportions giving a guideline for those shapes, to which I added three-dimensional effect with colors.
With chromatic tones, I started from the nose, looking for that kind of right “look” that defines the windshield shape, i.e. the “eyes” of the plane. One of those many features that indentify the model for the most. I sweated a lot, to joint in the right way the pointed nose with the bilobed fuselage of the 737. In this case, for caricatural reasons, the front part it’s quite more squatty, so I had to get some compromises with the suggestive Norwegian’s livery, with his own demarcation line between the “red” and the “white”, placed after the L1-door and the central part of the fuselage, that in the belly matches the leading edge of the wing.
Speaking about this part, the central section of the wing, is aerodynamically jointed to the fuselage in a very smoother and progressive way, forcing me to carefully handle the quantity of lights and shadows of slight prominences that, growing up, they end to blend with the wing.

The wing. Another distinctive feature of this plane, was absolutely not easy to accomplish. There are so many distinctive items, and it was not easy to put all of them in a little space, that became funny and so smaller for caricatural reasons.
Regarding the engines (one of my favorite parts ever), here we got CFM-56 too (another version) but placed in different kind of nacelles that are so peculiar of this plane. Specifically, the “NG” version, where we have an air intake that is circular in comparison with the “Classic”, but that still maintains his recognizable – even if more gentle – “squashed” shape at the bottom.
After the wing I was able to proceed with the after part of the fuselage and the tail planes. Over the rudder, originally, there was a caricature portrait of a pilot-friend of mine (due to the personalized origin of this work), than replaced with the celebration of the 6000 th 737 built. In here, playing with the light was useful to better create the thickness of the vertical stabilizer, and rounding up everything painted on it.
In every parts of the plane, I started with background tones, then detailed the structure with various elements. From small radio antennas, the packs air intakes, to the landing gear, that once again, it offers a distinctive feature of this plane.
In conclusion, over the paint, I put an external white mask that gives it that nice card’s layout that I like so much.
